BetStars Goes Live In The Czech Republic
BetStars, the online sports betting arm of the Toronto based “The Stars Group” (formerly Amaya Gaming) company, has sent its client live in the Czech Republic.
The release comes on the heels of a successful request for a Czech license and makes BetStars the first international online sportsbook to launch in the country.
“It is a great honor to be the first international sports betting operator to launch in the Czech Republic,” said Zeno Ossko, BetStars’ Managing Director.
PokerStars Continues to Diversify
BetStars is operated by PokerStars, the world’s largest online poker room. The move to expand non-poker offerings into more and more markets continues the recent strategic decisions made by The Stars Group designed to move the company away from its flagship namesake.
This latest move to be the first into the market shows just how serious that strategy is being taken. The Czech Republic’s regulatory scheme was widely criticized when first established as erecting too onerous a regulatory burden for such a small country to be enticing for operators.
So far, PokerStars has operated on the license for about a year. If this latest move is any indication of profitability, then it would appear the experiment is going well and company brass decided an expansion into sports would be worth their while.
Emphasis On Player Experience
Part of the reason for that success is The Stars Group’s emphasis on creating unique and enjoyable player experiences. The company has made clear that its development and marketing resources are being shifted more and more to casino/sports.
That focus has resulted in a BetStars client that offers players the ability to wager on more than 20 different sports, as well as a number of unique specialist bets. Although stiff competition in other markets has slowed its growth somewhat, the hope here appears to be that in a market of one, the product will be enough to excite punters to get online and start placing wagers.
“The BetStars team have worked very hard to make this a successful launch, and we hope customers in the Czech Republic will enjoy the range of betting options available,” Ossko said.
