Drake Slams B.C. Casino for Alleged Racial Profiling
It has been a controversial week already in the Canadian gambling sector, as a British Columbia casino is being accused of racism. Musician Drake claims that the B.C.-based casino Parq Vancouver is guilty of racially profiling him, in a controversial incident on Friday night. The rapper posted a controversial Instagram story to fans, in which he described the establishment by saying, “… worst run business I have ever witnessed … profiling me and not allowing me to gamble when I had everything they originally asked me for.”
Now, of course, without being privy to the incident that took place, we can only take what Drake is telling us, but it is important to understand there are two sides to every story. It is entirely possible that Drake was not being racially profiled, and was, instead, banned from gambling for an entirely different, and entirely understandable reason.
But, this is the first instance we have heard of somebody claiming to have been targeted racially. There are a lot of issues that can arise from Drake’s claim, especially in 2018, when subjects like this are so sensitive. Everything a business does is under the microscope these days, and it is essential that companies project a positive image. This is why Parq will be hoping they can sort this incident out and placate the rap star as soon as possible.
We will need to watch closely to find out more about this incident and how it unfolds. But it seems as though there is definitely more to this than meets the eye, and it is likely that the incident is going to have an adverse effect on the casino at large. Let’s hope things are sorted out sooner rather than later, and for the good of everyone.
