Gateway Seeks Temporary Location for Casino Operations

“While we have received initial municipal approval for the relocation of this property, an appeal of that decision has been filed in the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal by certain individuals and community groups which, if successful, would delay the proposed relocation pending further appeals or court challenges.”

Gateway Casinos & Entertainment is one of the leading casino heavyweights in the country. There are a lot of things that play a part in improving the casino and gambling industry in Canada, and it is clear that Gateway plays a massive part in this process. The company has continued to expand and grow its casino empire across Canada over the past few years.

In fact, Gateway kicked off the year in style, with the acquisition of Chances Casino in Kamloops. This is a big move for the company, and has helped them exert a growing influence over other provinces in the country. News broke recently that the company was looking for new temporary locations for casino operations as it seems the deadline of the Sudbury Downs lease fast approaching.

In fact, this is one of the projects that Gateway has considered for some time. The company first expressed doubts about potential Sudbury casino project back in December of last year. It seems that there were concerns about the number of obstacles posed by appeals and tribunals. Indeed, Gateway released a statement to such effect, stating, “While we have received initial municipal approval for the relocation of this property, an appeal of that decision has been filed in the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal by certain individuals and community groups which, if successful, would delay the proposed relocation pending further appeals or court challenges.”

It seems as though the appeals and attempts to block the development project have given Gateway cause to reconsider its stance. As a company that employs more than 8,500 staff, Gateway has to make sure they are doing what is right by them, and that is going to improve their company in the long run.

As a result, Gateway is looking at temporary locations that could prove easier and less intensive when developing a project. This is something the company is giving serious thought to, and there are a lot of things that play a part in taking the process further. We could well see Gateway move out of Greater Sudbury in order to follow the path of least resistance when it comes to pursuing their next casino project.

The development of the Kingsway Entertainment District project is one that promises to bring a lot of growth to the Sudbury area, and ensure that Gateway will grow their empire as much as possible. Greater Sudbury announced that Gateway was considering some alternative venues and locations for projects in the meanwhile.

Gateway has a lot of scope for growth when it comes to expanding across the country. The empire this company is building is one that plays a massive part in the growth and development of the casino and gambling industry across Canada.
