???? This Week in Canada: A Close Look at Online Gamblers in Canada

Abacus Canada, a leading market research firm based in Ontario, has carried out an extensive survey on online gambling and betting in Canada. The survey was carried out just last month and involved 1,500 Canadian residents.

The result? They found that the most popular type of game among online gamblers in Canada is online casino games. In fact, more than half of the participants have at least played a little at online casinos, compared to other forms of betting like online poker, horse racing, and sports betting. When asked if they typically win or lose at online gambling, most of the participants answered that they either lose money or break even. Well, no surprise there! We already knew that online betting sites aren’t charities, don’t we?

???? This Week in the Rest of the World: Australian Study Finds Lottery and Scratch Cards Not Harmless

While it’s widely accepted that scratch cards and playing the lottery are a form of gambling, they are mostly seen as harmless fun, especially when compared with other types of gambling activities like playing slots or sports betting.

However, a study carried out by Curtin University in Australia found that playing scratch cards and the lottery could lead to problem gambling. The instant-win nature and always giving the impression that players had “almost” won are often traits that could lead to players trying to chase their losses, resulting in gambling-related issues.

There have been so many criticisms on online casino players, perhaps its time to shift the attention to lottery and scratch card players instead!
