This week in gambling, we update you on the latest push to legalise single-game sports betting in Canada while we take a look at how Norway is holding tightly to their monopoly in the nation’s gambling industry. Furthermore, we are very pleased to bring a super casino that has just joined us at Online Casinos Canada, and we have a feeling that you’ll be even more pleased to hear about them! We also shine the light on Red Tiger’s newest classic slot, which takes the experience of playing 3-reel games up a level.
This Week in Canada: Canada Pushes to Legalise Single-Game Sports Betting
The Canadian Criminal Code states that the only legal way to wager on sports events is by betting on the outcome of several matches, called parlay. However, when online bookmakers came about, they operate within a grey area, where Canadians can make single-game bets as long as the operators are not based in Canada. But pretty much since the dawn of time, we know that people don’t stop doing something just because it’s been criminalised. Instead, they take things underground or like in the case of Canada, operate within grey areas, funnelling all the funds to offshore companies. Guess Canadians are beginning to realise the loss of a large piece of cake they could have had and a member of Parliament, Kevin Waugh, is pushing to pass a new bill, called Safe and Regulated Sports Betting Act, to remove the parlay requirement. This push is also supported by many US major sports leagues. Let’s see if the power of money and US support will get the bill passed!
This Week in the Rest of the World: Norway Holding Tight to State-Run Monopoly Gambling Model
There aren’t that many state-run monopoly gambling models left in Europe, but Norway is certainly holding tight to it. Just this week, Lotteritilsynet, the country’s gambling regulator, has successfully gotten 36 Facebook pages removed. These sites, including brands like Vera&John, Rizk, and ComeOn, were written in the Norwegian language, and the regulatory agency claimed that they have violated Norway’s gambling laws. While the country is holding tightly to their monopoly model, they have been seeing a rise in problem gambling within the nation. Therefore, Spillavhengighet Norge, Norway’s problem gambling association, is currently running a study to find out if an open-licencing model may actually be better for the country. Perhaps Canada’s provincial governments, who also have a monopoly on providing gambling services, could learn a thing or two from this study too?

Hot Game This Week: Multiplier Riches
Red Tiger Gaming has proven that classic doesn’t have to mean boring! Introducing the developer’s newest classic slot game, Multiplier Riches, where the traditional slot machine offers some exciting twists. The game has a 3-reel and 1-row setup with just a single payline and the all-too-familiar vintage slot symbols. However, things are jazzed up with a 20s theme, sticky wilds, increasing multipliers, and the potential to pay out more than 5,000x your stake in one spin. Watch out! This game could be more engaging than a lot of modern video slots out there!
