Possibility of Casino in Saanich According to Councillor
Every month we hear rumblings of new casino developments bubbling up somewhere over the horizon. There are so many things that play a role in creating the perfect casino for a particular province, and attention has to be paid to the area in which the project is planned. In fact, there seem to be new projects and developments happening all the time, or at least talk of them happening.
However, Saanich suddenly finds itself back in the mix, as Victoria no longer seems interested in hosting a casino, and there is the very real possibility that we might see a casino Saanich in the near future. Following the issues with criminal activity, and Vancouver getting serious with anti-money laundering across Canada, authorities have been quick to point out that things are just at the discussion stage, nothing more. Indeed, Mayor Fred Haynes claimed, “It’s not to be interpreted as an outright strong support for a casino.” But, is this a good sign? Councillor Susan Brice certainly seems to think so.
This could have huge benefits for the area, and it will give BCLC another project to help them generate some additional revenue. Injecting some cash into B.C. by way of new casinos is so important, and the province needs to work on making casinos positive again, following money laundering problems, and strike action.
The fact of the matter is that the casino and gambling industry in Canada is big business, and brings in a lot of money for the country. So, a new casino development, if planned and carried out properly, can be a really positive and impressive move. There is, of course, the possibility of negative aspects relating to the casinos. But, it is a case of weighing up the positives and negatives. Now that Victoria has stepped aside, Saanich has shown renewed interest, and this is certainly as positive for the future.
