USA Residents Now at Liberty to Enjoy Sports Betting
Now the USA can enjoy the sport-enhancing experience that we in Canada have enjoyed for so long
On May 14, 2018, the Supreme Court of the United States repealed the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA). This allows the states to decide if they want to legalize sports betting. Some states have jumped at the opportunity. The choice to legalize sports betting is proving to be a popular one.
In Canada, gamers have enjoyed sports betting for a long time. The best casinos with integrated sports books in Canada have many Canadian players. Now, residents of the USA will be able to enjoy a similar experience in certain states.
States starting to legalize sports betting
New Jersey has been central to the repeal of PASPA. Their lawsuit forced the Supreme Court of the United States to review the statute. But, New Jersey wasn’t the first to legalize sports betting.
In fact, it was Delaware that jumped in first. On June 5, 2018, Delaware became the first new state to allow sports betting. The popular gambling event is available in three locations in Delaware. Including online betting, sports betting is predicted to be worth at least $49.6 million to the state.
Scientific Games power the sports betting offering of Delaware. The beloved games provider in Canada powers the SportsPick brand. SportsPick is the brand offering sports betting in Delaware. Scientific Games is known for distributing high-quality games from their many studios. One of their classic games is Zeus III, created by Williams Interactive.
New Jersey finally joins the party
As the star player behind the repeal of PASPA, New Jersey has finally legalized sports betting. On June 11, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy signed the state’s sports betting legalization. It was reported that sports wagering in the state could then start on Thursday, June 14.
New Jersey jumped at the opportunity. On June 14, at 10:30 am, the same Phil Murphy placed the first legal wager of New Jersey. He backed Germany to win the World Cup and the New Jersey Devils to win the 2019 Stanley Cup. The bet was placed at Monmouth Park, which is powered by a top gambling site in Canada, William Hill.
Other states are in advanced stages of legalizing sports betting. Pennsylvania has recently passed a bill. West Virginia has also recently passed a bill. Mississippi is the third state to have a bill passed and is ready to start officially. 15 other states have introduced a bill, but it hasn’t passed yet.
As of right now, Nevada, New Jersey, and Delaware are enjoying the sports betting experience.
