Wasaga Beach Casino Hits Planning Stage

“We are thrilled that Gateway has settled on a site that will best meet its business needs and we look forward to the construction phase starting.”

Gateway Casinos & Entertainment is perhaps the leading casino operator in Canada, and the company behind so many development projects and ideas across provinces. And, it seems that Gateway have secured another development as the proposed Wasaga Beach casino finally reaches the planning stage. The controversial casino project is one that has led to a lot of opposition, but it seems as though it is finally going to go through.

The news comes a couple of weeks after it was announced that Gateway had finally chosen a location site for the casino in Wasaga Beach. This is one of the most important projects Gateway has spearheaded for a while, and choosing the right location was absolutely essential for the project to develop without any setbacks.

Over the coming weeks a plan of action will be in place to help the casino planning go smoothly, and to ensure that everything remains on schedule as much as it possibly can. However, there are many who believe that Gateway have taken a gamble with the choice for their Wasaga Beach location, and this is something that could prove problematic for Gateway in the future.

After years of opposition and protests, Gateway finally decided on the location, and chose the land between Highway 26 and Beechwood Drive as the perfect spot for their new development. Mayor Nina Bifolchi seemed delighted at the proposal, stating “We are thrilled that Gateway has settled on a site that will best meet its business needs and we look forward to the construction phase starting.” Indeed, it seems that the casino is set to bring in an extra C$2 million annually to the community.

However, not everyone is thrilled at the prospect, with many claiming that residents were not made aware of the scope of the project, not to mention the fact that there is a strong feeling Gateway rushed into making a decision too quickly. The concerns are valid, and there are always going to be people who have issues with what is being done, but it does seem that the benefits to this casino project are going to outweigh the negatives.

This isn’t the first project Gateway has had to deal with this year, and the company was seeking a temporary location for its casino operations in Sudbury Downs earlier this year. This has become much more normal for Gateway over recent years, and it remains essential for the company to continue developments wherever they can.

As a company boasting more than 8,500 employees, Gateway has a lot of influence across Canada. And, while many people may not welcome the introduction of casinos in their hometown, it’s difficult to deny the cultural and economic benefits of this moving forward. Let’s hope the Wasaga Beach casino project turns out to be an unmitigated success, and this sets a positive precedent for the future.
