Wasaga Beach Casino Hits Planning Stage
“We are thrilled that Gateway has settled on a site that will best meet its business needs and we look forward to the construction phase starting.”
After years of opposition and protests, Gateway finally decided on the location, and chose the land between Highway 26 and Beechwood Drive as the perfect spot for their new development. Mayor Nina Bifolchi seemed delighted at the proposal, stating “We are thrilled that Gateway has settled on a site that will best meet its business needs and we look forward to the construction phase starting.” Indeed, it seems that the casino is set to bring in an extra C$2 million annually to the community.
However, not everyone is thrilled at the prospect, with many claiming that residents were not made aware of the scope of the project, not to mention the fact that there is a strong feeling Gateway rushed into making a decision too quickly. The concerns are valid, and there are always going to be people who have issues with what is being done, but it does seem that the benefits to this casino project are going to outweigh the negatives.
As a company boasting more than 8,500 employees, Gateway has a lot of influence across Canada. And, while many people may not welcome the introduction of casinos in their hometown, it’s difficult to deny the cultural and economic benefits of this moving forward. Let’s hope the Wasaga Beach casino project turns out to be an unmitigated success, and this sets a positive precedent for the future.
